Week four. Four things on my desk this week, none of them finished.
Account Aggregator handoff
Our integration with the four AA TSPs is technically working. The friction is not the network call, it is the consent screen. Users hit our app, get bounced to an AA flow that looks nothing like our app, come back, and are sometimes one screen away from giving up. I am drafting copy that frames the AA step as a verification rather than a sign-up, and a thin pre-screen that previews what is about to happen. Testing with five users next week.
NetWorth chart
We have three weeks of usage data on the v1 chart and the read pattern is clear. Users do not look at the line. They look at the number at the top, the change since last month, and the segmentation pie below. The line is decoration. I am rewriting the hero card to lead with those three, and putting the line in a secondary view that the user can pull up if they want it. The hard part is convincing engineering that removing the line is not a regression. It is a clarification.
Legacy planning
Munmun has been pushing on this since week one. The idea is right; the model for “what to share with whom, and when” is wrong in every prototype I have drawn. The version where users assign assets to beneficiaries one at a time scales badly. The version where users describe their household first, then attach assets to roles within it, scales better but pre-supposes a household model the user may not have agreed with us about. I think the answer is two flows depending on user wealth, but I have not slept on it.
Hiring
We are looking for a second designer to own the Insurance and Account Health surfaces. I am writing the job spec this weekend. The candidate should have shipped at least one regulated product. Fintech, healthcare, identity, any of those. The single biggest cost of hiring outside that constraint at this stage is the six months they need to learn the regulatory edges, by which point we have shipped past them.
End of week note: nothing here is shippable yet. That is the right state for week four.
